Founded with a steadfast mission to train compassionate, ethical, and highly skilled healthcare professionals, Kings Medical College began humbly within Nyeri township, offering just one program: Medical Laboratory Sciences. But from the outset, its vision was bold — to bridge the vast health disparities and bring dignity to regions often forgotten by formal medical infrastructure.
By 2010, recognizing the growing need for medical courses amongst young Kenyans, Kings Medical College made a courageous move. It relocated and expanded its scope, becoming a beacon for the aspiring health professionals.Over the years, the institution has steadily grown in both size and reputation, expanding its academic offerings. King’s Medical College has remained steadfast in its mission to produce competent, ethical, and service-driven graduates.
The college flourished, adding core medical programs like Clinical Medicine and the much-celebrated Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) programme, which received its accreditation in 2012. From that point, Kings Medical College was not just a school — it was a movement. A lifeline. A promise.
But like many noble endeavors, the road wasn’t without obstacles. In 2016, the institution faced significant challenges that forced a temporary pause. Yet, from this adversity came reflection, renewal, and a deeper commitment to its founding ideals. The break was not an end, but a reset — an opportunity to rise stronger, better equipped, and more focused.
Now, as Kings Medical College reopens its doors once more in 2025, it does so with renewed vigor, an experienced leadership team, and modernized resources. The institution stands poised to meet Kenya’s urgent healthcare needs. The College has expanded its programmes to include industry demand led programmes. With a health-to-population ratio far below international standards, the College's mission to produce skilled health professionals is more relevant than ever.
